thu, 16 mar 2017
Bemefa, The Belgian Compound Feed Industry Association, reports in a press release of 13th March 2017 that the antibiotic use in animal feed in Belgium has decreased by 36 % compared to 2011.

In 2013 AMCRA (AntiMicrobial Consumption and Resistance in Animals) was founded by the Belgian compound feed industry, along with several other stakeholders (pharma companies, farming organisations, veterinarians, the government, scientists, …). Together they developed the Vision Plan 2020. This plan contains ten targets and action points, including 50 % decrease of antibiotic use in the animal production by 2020 and  50 % decrease for the production of antibiotic medicated feed by 2017. Each 6 months Bemefa conducts a research to measure the production of medicated feed. At the end of 2016, 36 % less antibiotics was measured.
